Smart Mobs: The next social revolution
Another good reading is Howard Rheingold "SMART MOBS: The next social revolution".
The book written in 2002 is a global approach (from Tokyo to Helsinki, Manhattan to Manila) of the convergence of mobile communications and computing that are driving the next social revolution and transforming the ways in which people meet, mate, work, buy, sell, govern, and create.
This reading is rich in names, definitions and visions. Many of the perspectives foreseen in this book are today everyday life. I really liked the way he reminds us that, the real impact of LBS MOSOSO will come not from the technology itself but from how people use it and ultimately use it to transform themselves, their communities, and their institutions.
The website is not as good but worth a visit www.smartmobs.com

Linked
In France, August is vacation time. My time in front of the computer is reduced, Online reading as well - So I went back to paper. Reading "Linked: How Everything Is Connected to Everything Else and What It Means for Business, Science, and Everyday Life" from Albert-Laszlo Barabasi. This book really gave me a stronger confidence that Social Software are indeed the next social revolution. Not a lot is said about LBS nor MOSOSO , but the book is a real historical approach of the Social Software mathematical and sociological approach. This Book is really worth reading.

Recent MOSOSOs
The evolution of MOSOSO is moving along at an increasingly rapid rate. Each week there consistently are new MOSOSOs popping up everywhere, most of which are being developed in Europe. This week we have run across Bemovil and Seeker Wireless. Heavily inspired by social software and the "FOAF movement," Bemovil connects people with SMSs being sent from any PC to any mobile device. Seeker Wireless, basedin Australia, is developing different uses for LBS technology with mobile phones.

Are social software useful ?
A recent article in french on mobilites.net is bringing up the idea that the new comming wave of the new MOSOSO will really make SOSO users feel that they are using an old technology.
New MOSOSO are LBS aware. Users are esealy in contact with one another because they combine location awareness and social networking.
(see mobilites.net website )
