DLD06

Digital Lifestyle Day 06

I Just got back form http://www.dld06.com Conference in Munich. Being ther gave me a stronger impression that the LBS-MOSOSO Market is really about to take off ! Companies like http://www.plazes.com and http://www.socialight.comare launching not only about to launch LBS MOSOSOS services but closed nice investement deals. Both of those companies are using different techniques to locate the user. Socialight is usig A-GPS a heavy technology just available in the us and only working with one operator at the moment, where as Plazes is asking the user to declare their location by declaring the BTS / GSM antenna the user is connected to. I do not know if you remember the Symbian software CellTracker - well Plazes is really doing something cool out of this idea ! -
Alex Kummerman CEO of Clicmobile says that their LBS-MOSOSO called http://www.areyouhere.net is using GSM location provided by operators ( such as swisscom in switzerland ). In addition to the location they devellopped and integrated a whole set of tools that enables them to build new comunities in no time and on the top of that extend the features that are available online to the mobile of the user.

TECHNIQUES TO DETERMINING LOCATION ON UMTS NETWORKS

Lorys L Pognon - from Clicmobile wrote a white paper on the techniques to determine location on UMTS networks.
Before this whitepaper questions such as can we get location information on UMTS networks the same way we get location on Cell-ID over GSM networks were unanswered.
If you asked yourself this question, this whitepaper is for you.
